I love the vintage Christmas palette of adding in mint & pink into the classic red & green, & have wanted to decorate in that scheme for probably 3 solid years!
This year I decided enough was enough, picked up a bucket of pink ornaments and went to town. I’m just going to go ahead and say… I love it! It’s honestly speaking to my soul, haha! And the funny thing is, a lot of the other holidy decor I’ve collected over the years was the same color palette. Is that kismet?
(Random side story: Last year I did all mint ornaments on a flocked tree & just didn’t love it. I also had morning sickness last Christmas so just thinking about it makes me nauseous. This year the flocked tree is upstairs covered in our family ornaments. Much less puking!)
ANYWAY! I thought I’d share a few tips I like to use when I decorate my Christmas tree. I love a well designed tree as much as I love the “no rules, anything goes” tree. These tips can be used for either one in my opinion! Let me know what you think. xx
TIP 1: USE A VARIETY OF GARLANDS.
I have three different types of garlands in my tree. The two different felt garlands have been on my tree for probably 5 years, and this year I picked up a wood bead garland from Target! In total there are 4 felt garlands and three wood garlands. I like to put my garlands on the tree first!
2. ADD FOLIAGE.
Adding some different greenery to your tree is a great way to add more texture and depth! I went with two different types this year- a lambs ear & I think the other is a faux succulent of some kind? Or maybe a mini eucalyptus… It looked good & made enough sense, so here we are!
3. USE ONE TYPE OF ORNAMENT. This sounds so boring! But I love the overall effect. I used the classic Christmas ball (globe? sphere?) in four different colors: pink, red, white & mint. And then a couple different sizes in each color. The mint and pink ornaments are Hobby Lobby. The bigger red & white ones I made from a paint shaking DIY tutorial from Aubry @ Hello Maypole.
The end result is fun, happy & simple! It was so fun to decorate my Christmas tree this year, and I’m already trying to figure out how I can keep it up til Spring.
BONUS TIP: HAVE FUN WITH IT! It’s Christmas. :)
